What with watching my family's rights get systematically stripped away and wondering how fast our social safety nets are going to crumble, I kinda forgot about this thing. 🫠

You know what, though? Things are actually kinda okay – for us personally and professionally – and for a lot of our clients as well. It's a weird tension to hold!

I chalk it up to all of us really turning inward and circling up together to support each other. And I love that! Don't love the impetus for it, but we collectively needed a shift in how we relate, and we're doing it. It feels like a real and unshakeable thing that's growing.

Have you read Greg Storey's manifesto yet? I highly encourage you to. It left me feeling galvanized and not-alone. Here's a tidbit:

❤️‍🔥
We don’t need another motivational quote.
We don’t need another productivity hack.
We need restoration.
Not spa-day self-care.
Not “find your joy.”
Actual restoration.
As in—
Unearthing what got buried.
Facing what you’ve been outrunning.
Naming what you’re no longer willing to tolerate.
Learning how to rebuild without disappearing again.
This is the work.
It’s not clean.
It’s not linear.
And it sure as hell isn’t marketable.
But it is hopeful.

Read the whole thing.

☎️ Sales dragging? Pipeline leaky? Talk to Leslie about Outgrow!

I really thought it was too good to be true, when Leslie got excited about Outgrow last year. But now – having seen his first client doing the work and absolutely smashing their revenue goals (in this economy?!) – I'm a believer.

Outgrow approaches sales with a human-first ethos of care and support for your customers that deeply resonates with Leslie's and my "Love First" core value.

Outgrow calls itself "Sales Doing, Not Sales Training," because pretty much everyone knows that they're supposed to do sales. Duh. They just...don't.

Mainly because it feels awkward as hell and we all hate risking rejection – which is always completely guaranteed in sales. Ugh.

We also have to get over the shame or fear or whatever weird/traumatic belief we were socialized with from a young age, in order to be able to ask for what we want and to believe there are resources available for us.

This often takes some therapy; it can dig into some really deep shit.

(Like, is your scarcity mindset rooted in the lack of emotional resources your caregiver offered – or the way they actively withheld love/affection/care – when you were, say, 3-4 years old? Mmhmm? Yeah, I don't have my psych degree for nothing!)

But, believe me, you can totally do this. It's internal work worth doing, no matter the reason.

Outgrow – heal your shit and get rich while doing it! Or, something like that anyway. 🤣

My point is, if you're staring down the unstable economy and wondering how you're going to make it: get on Leslie's calendar to talk about Outgrow. Reply to this newsletter and I'll get you scheduled!

Don't psych yourself out and think you're the one special exception to this program working. I promise you, you're not. You're special and we love you, but you're not that special! If you have had happy clients at any point, you can add 15-30% of new revenue annually with Outgrow.

(Also, I have a ton of Outgrow books to give away, so if you want to dip a toe in that way first, send me your mailing address and I'll pop one in the mail for you!)

A Blast from the Past

14 years ago, Leslie presented at IgniteBend and I stumbled upon the video of it earlier this week. The message still holds up, and I'm still inordinately proud of the creativity I summoned for making the slides!

Leslie also showed up on some podcasts and things recently. Here's a quick rundown:

Dog...wood

Taking a break from the house-beasts to show you the glory of the dogwood tree in our front yard. It's one of the only ones in Bend (they aren't native on this side of the mountains), and people stop on the sidewalk to admire it every spring!

Love First. Everything else follows.

Listen, times are tough and the news cycle is horrifying. There's a strong temptation to disappear and try to stay out of trouble, or scroll helplessly on the outrage-machine. But the best – and ultimately safest! – thing we all can do is to find the areas where we can each leverage our unique strengths and privileges to build the world we want to live in. I'm so glad you are in ours. 💜
