If getting the first issue of a newsletter launched is hard, keeping the momentum going and following through with the second one is even harder. But here we are – a minor miracle and cause for celebration!

Do you still need a copy of Heal to Lead?

I've mailed out copies to everyone who asked for them, and even some of you who didn't! Is there anyone else who wants some light summer reading about entrepreneurs healing their complex trauma? 😅

Client Wisdom
This nugget comes from Rizco: "ES’MO!" (Enough said, move on). It’s what they say to politely but firmly stop a conversation that has begun to repeat itself in destructive, unhelpful, or at least annoying ways. We think this would be especially useful in L10s and full-day sessions so things don't drag on forever. It sure beats simmering resentment, or throwing pencils at people's heads! Thanks, Rizco, for being a great example of a caring team!

Watch this!

Leslie and Geneve Huxley, CPA cohosted an awesome webinar on June 26. You can watch the recording of it here: The EBITDA + EOS Edge: How Owners Can Boost Their Businesses' Value. Everyone exits their business eventually – make sure it's in the best shape, whether you're planning to sell or pass it on.

Psst – Leslie is taking his Certified Exit Planner Advisor test this month so he can provide better help all of you Grow Intentionally. Will he pass? Will he fail? Tune in next time!

Leslie's Corner: Paper Power - A Simple Way to Practice Simplicity

All but one of my clients uses digital tools to run EOS to help everyone stay "on the same page" on their EOS journey to mastery. I do this myself.

There is one drawback that needs intentional counterbalance.

Digital tools are intentionally designed to remove constraints. Without constraint our words flow freely, and I find myself falling into the "more words equals better communication" trap.

EOS is a system where we literally mean we are "on the same page," as represented in a single page, double sided V/TO.

Over time, I've been noticing that my one client who works out of the actual physical Leadership Team Manual has improved faster than most of my other clients.

A contributing (obviously not the sole) factor was simply that they didn't have the actual space for poorly worded Rocks, Core Values, Marketing Strategies.

The physical constraint of the page forced the extra effort to only put the words that mattered. They got to the root faster.

I've started challenging myself and all my clients to create a physical, 1-page V/TO where they love every word.

When I printed my current V/TO from Ninety, it was four pages long! As I reviewed it, I found sloppy sentences, unclear descriptions, issues with "word vomit," and Rocks that were neither SMART nor concise.

My deluge of words misled me to thinking I'd actually done the work because my digital tools provided no constraint and I just kept ploughing forward.

If you take this challenge seriously, you will see an improvement in your strategic and tactical thinking. You will improve your ability to write succinct, powerful Issues. Your ability to craft SMART Rocks effectively will improve.

My clients who have already taken up the challenge save a significant amount of time every session. They get done early, get more time to IDS, and are able to craft Rocks more effectively.

Should you stop using digital tools? Oh, hell no!

Sometimes the lack of constraint is powerful when brainstorming, getting to "good enough" in session, and kicking perfectionism in the butt!

And then – after the session, during clarity breaks, when cleaning up your Issues lists, and clarifying your Rocks – pull out the paper, put your writing tool of choice to work, and give yourself permission to practice simplicity.

What do you want?
Are there topics you'd like to see Leslie cover? Like, a checklist for finding a great fractional Integrator? Leslie's Lessons from 100 Sessions (he hit that milestone last week!)? Do you need the recipe for my neighborhood-famous cookies? I'm going to put a poll in the next issue so you can rank some possible choices -- you can always email me with questions/ideas and I'll queue them up!

A Song for You

From the genius behind I've No More F***s to Give! comes this absolute bop.

If you relate too hard to this, may I humbly suggest magnesium oil sprayed on your tummy prior to bedtime? Magnesium relieves anxiety and stress, and anxiety and stress deplete your magnesium stores; it can turn into a vicious cycle real quick.

Resource of the moment: Identify and Attract Your Best Clients, from David Hoos, who graciously shared it on the Bureau Slack. "This worksheet is designed to help you identify the clients that best fit your agency’s strengths and goals. By narrowing down your ideal client profile, you'll be better positioned to scale your agency efficiently and effectively." Check it out!

Tink's Summer Day Job

I'm trying to resuscitate our dog-trounced backyard by growing a clover patch, and Tink (our 150 pound Daniff) loves nothing more than to try to eat the hose spray while I water. Click the picture for a slo-mo video of the landshark attack. (Yes, our dogs have an IG. LOL.)

That's it for July, folks! I hope you are enjoying life and loving well. See you next time! 💜
